On a glorious morning record fields turned out with over 560 finishers. Kevin Gorman led all racers
through a 4:58 first mile. Tony Delogne and 3 time winner Jason Cakouros followed together at 5:08. Shortly after the mile the 5k course takes a right turn, while the 10k continues straight ahead. Gorman took the right and crushed
the field, finishing in 16:05 over 2 1/2 minutes ahead of second place . In a race between two Canton natives Kara Lynne Kerr (19:24) prevailed by 14 seconds over 2008 winner Emily Gean. Meanwhile in the 10K Delogne and 3 time winner Cakouros remained side by side, passing 2 miles in 10:15 and hitting the 3 mile mark in 15:40
after the Hemlock St hill. At this point Delogne used the Greenlodge St downhill to open a small gap. While Jason gained over the final two miles Tony (33:23) had enough to preserve the win by 7 seconds. For the women
Amanda Kourtz turned the tables on two time winner and course record holder Julie Spolidoro. Kourtz had finished second the past two years, but won a convincing victory this time finishing 8th
overall in 37:58. Spolidoro had to settle for second, admitting she is a bit off her best form. First and second place finishers along with division winners had a choice of a bountiful array of merchandise prizes,
including excellent seats to the Celtics, Reebok shoes, restaurant gift certificates and other items generously donated by local merchants along with a small cash purse. An unusual problem was that it was
difficult to get the crowd inside to pick up their awards and/or raffle prizes due to the outstanding weather. |
