On a sunny morning, the fun
run started @ 9:45 with a field of 40 being cheered on by the awaiting 5K and 10K runners. The winners of the fun run were both 12 years old: Katie Bradley and Jeffery Bodendorf. 15 Minutes later it was time for the main event. The 5k and 10k events started simultaneously and ran together for the first mile. Eventual winner Joseph Pike of Keene,N.H. towed the field
through a 5:05 first mile with second place finisher Mike Morris of Stoughton about 8 seconds back. Both places held up throughout the race. Pike's winning time of 16:56 was an average 5:27 per mile pace. Morris was
about 45 seconds behind.Top female was Katie Churchill, of Easton with a 6:10 pace and 19:12 finish. Churchill finished 4th
overall. The fastest time from Canton runners were turned in by Brian Hayes with an 20:02 and Cassie Wesner with a 22:08. In the 10K event David Woodruff of Needham held a 5:48 pace to finish at 36:06
while Framingham's Randy Stockbridge finished at 40:38. Stockbridge defended her 2010 championship. Woodruff's winning time was the slowest for men in the race's history. The men's field was greatly affected by the reschedule. The
new date conflicted with a New England Championship meet where several expected competitors ran for their clubs. Dueling for first Canton finisher were Michael McDonald and Drew Kemalian Jr., with a 39:28/39:56. Also
noteworthy was the second place overall finish by 51 year old Jim Sullivan of Milford, N.H. In the new team competition HFC Striders A and B teams finished first and second for the men. The Fuzion running team was
third. For the women top prize was taken by Fabulous Fuzion. |
