29th Annual Canton Fall Classic
Both the 5k and 10k in 2017 featured wire to wire performances by the respective winners. The races start simultaneously and run together down Washington St for the first mile before the 5k runners take a right on Wentworth. Stoughton High grad Nick Green led the field through the mile in 5:05. Continuing on the 10k route Nick passed the 3 mile mark (after the Hemlock St hill) in 15:30 with Chris Mahoney 15 seconds back. Green continued to extend his lead to finish in 32:31 with Mahoney second in 33:37. For the women it was a close race between Erin Brown and Carla Carvalho with Erin prevailing by 11 seconds to notch her first Fall Classic victory.

First Canton finisher in the 10k was the third place female runner Abbey Nyland.

In the 5k past champion Louis Raffeto (16:47) returned to victory by a good margin over ageless senior John Sullivan (17:27). Louis was the top Canton finisher. Top woman was Kate Blake of Dedham who finished 7th overall with a time of 19:57. Sheryl Seller was the top Canton finisher.

The day begin with the third edition of the Senior Walk. About 40 seniors participated in the event and they were cheered by hundreds. This event has added a unique feature to the event. At least two walkers in the field were age 98.
In the Fun Run, Charlie Zack was first to cross the finish overall and Sabrina Mayer (race director Melissa’s daughter) repeated as the first female.

More than 500 runners participated in the 5K, 10K, Senior Walk and Fun Run.
